I go with Dick to run some errands, one of which is a trip to Autozone. He loves to run errands with me cause, well why wouldn’t he??? I’m super fun. LOL!! We need to buy some parts for some simple maintenance on one of the cars we just bought.
One of the great things about AutoZone? If you buy the windshield wipers or car batteries, they change it out for you!! In addition, if your engine light comes on, they can plug in a diagnostic and tell you what the problem is, for FREE! I love this because when I go to a dealer, they give me some bullshit about their equipment being expensive and they have to charge you $75 just to run the diagnostic. Whatever!
The windshield wipers are worn on this car and need replacing.

In addition to the windshield wipers, the driver seat window doesn’t go down. Dick is not too happy about this since it’s hot today. Hoping that it’s not the motor that controls the window (a major job to repair), Dick decides to try the fuse. He then gives me a “LESSON” in fuses and shows me how to check it. So, now I am going to pass on the LESSON to you!
A LESSON IN FUSES.
Every car has a place under the hood where all the fuses are housed.
These fuses control your power windows, power seats, etc. and have different Amperages (amps). Remove the cover that maps out what each fuse is for and you’ll see the actual fuses.
We’re looking for the power window fuse, and there could be more than one. When we go to check the fuse box, we find that the fuses are actually MISSING. This is not uncommon at dealer auctions because other dealers tend to remove these so potential buyers think the car is a lemon and won’t bid on it. A low trick of the trade.
After buying a set of multiple fuses, you need to use the cover to figure out where the appropriate fuse is located with the correct amperage and install them.
We replace the missing fuses and TA DA!! The window works! YEAH!
Now if you didn’t know to check your fuse box and brought it to a dealer, they would probably charge you an arm and a leg to change out the motor of your window. So, don’t be fooled and educate yourself!!!
Dick is sitting proudly, thinking how lucky I am to have someone like him teach me these things. Yes, thank you my dear Dick. You’re awesome!
