Bush wacking and cleaning up my dump of a backyard.

Winter and the  yard work gets neglected, especially since I got pregnant in the fall, there’s so much that I should have done prior to winter but simply didn’t have the time or energy. Since we’re somewhat cleaned up the front, and my backyard is looking like one big dump…time to get to work again! [...]

Need a project to do with the kids? How about collaborate on a painting together?

Louise and I were at home together while Dick took Thelma to her training academy. So, Louise wanted to do something TOGETHER and thought it would be neat to work on a painting together. Normally, since the kids always want help with stuff, I would be like, “It’s more special if you do it by [...]

How to get that messy, wavy hair look. Get yo bed-head on!

I’m Asian and my hair is naturally straight. However, I love that messy, wavy hair look that gives you that cute, bed-head look that you often see the Celebrities donning. Except, getting that messy look takes work! Here’s my version of how to get that look. WHAT YOU NEED What you’re going to need is [...]

Home Depot to get the platforms for our beds.

First thing in the morning after Thelma opened her eyes was, can we go to Home Depot now? So, we skip breakfast and head out the door, despite snowy weather. The girls are determined to get their beds. Dick and I decided, who needs SLATS anyway. Why not just a flat platform, which provides better support anyway! [...]

Finally ready to assemble the Twin Beds.

After nearly waiting two weeks in high anticipation of having their own NEW beds, we are finally ready to start the assembly process. We start with one bed and take out all the pieces. I’m in charge of reading the instructions and telling everyone what to do. As Dick points out, “You ARE the Eng-gin-eer!”

Jane uses a grinding wheel to sharpen her lawn mower blades.

Here I was all ready to FINALLY cut my grass but now have been THWARTED (Definition THWART: to prevent someone from doing something) by  Dick’s carelessness in leaving the string to his car tent lying around and now it’s wrapped itself around the blades of my mower. I can’t just unwind the string so I’m [...]

PAINTING FRENZIE: The front porch gets an uplift too.

It’s spring and since it’s still somewhat nice outside and not too hot, I like to do some work around the house. Not only did the back porch need some lovin’, the front porch does too! See where I went pressure-washer crazy?

Paint da fence. Up, down, up, down.

Turbo-pressure washing my porch the other day made it look great, however, it knocked off a little more paint than I wanted off the railing. I haven’t painted it in a few years and it’s  been worn by the weather. I like the DISTRESSED look but I also don’t want my railing to rot. So, [...]

Jane uses the rest of the chalkboard paint on the garage door.

Because I still have some chalkboard paint left, I decided to paint the garage door of our “multipurpose room” with it. It’s white and boring and ugly. I outline the edges with a thin brush.

KWICK KWOTE: Let’s Plant Some Flowers and Drink Some Wine

Besides using the chalkboard paint in the girls room, I also used it on our pantry door…an ugly white eyesore. Originally when I thought to use the chalkboard paint, it was intended for this door. I wanted to be able to write grocery lists, our favorite wines list, maybe even homeschool while I’m cooking, writing [...]
