Arts and Crafts with Jane, Thelma & Louise: Crayon-coloring Artists.

Crayon Twistables

The girls and I love arts and crafts. My cousin  brought over a Disney Princess coloring book for the girls (Thanks sweetie!)  and we decided that’s what we were going to do today. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to color. It’s so relaxing and meditational…one of my absolutely favorite things to do as a kid (and sometimes as an adult!).

So after dinner for some down-time, we were ready for some Crayola fun! Except, these are not the regular Crayola Crayons. They are called “Twistables” and, although it’s convenient that you don’t have to peel off the wrapper of the crayon, I am not really a fan. The tip is not pointy which makes it hard for precise coloring in the lines or outlining. TAKE NOTE CRAYOLA! MUST have a sharp tip! Yes, I’m anal-Jane. Anyways, we make do.

Coloring Jasmine

Thelma starts with a picture of Princess Jasmine.

Louise colors Mulan

Louise selects a picture of Mulan.

And me, I like that dragon where Eddie Murphy was the voice-over. What’s his name??? Oh yes, Mushu.

Usually, I have to have music for everything. But, today, we decided to fully immerse ourselves in our coloring and without any distractions. Truly organic!

Yes, I love this T-shirt so you’ll probably see it more than once. My sister, Lucy Lu, bought one for me and one for Dick (so we can be twins lol) but because it’s one of my favorite at-home, comfy t-shirts, I have claimed both as my own. That way, one gets dirty and I have the other for backup. The front says “NERD” and the back “BOOGER”. Classy, right? Actually, if you watch  “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” the chick in it is sporting this same shirt!

“Hey, I was using that!”

Louise keeps stealing the colors I need, fooling me into believing she will be “quick” but ends up forgetting to return it to me cause she’s had it so long.

I’m hard at work on my Mushu and decide after trying to be “creative” that I’ve really made it an ugly mess and I can’t stand the background. But, as Thelma points out to me, “You live and you learn”, meaning, how would I know how it would look if I didn’t try it. Yes, my dear, wise 7-yr old…you are correct.

Meanwhile, she zips thru her first coloring whereas I decide to just take my time and focus on just one piece of artwork for today. Besides, it’s going to take some extra work and effort to fix the dang thing. (Remember I’m an ah-tist dah-ling.)

Wanna snack girls?

I definitely didn’t need to ask twice. Green tea and an apple turn-over for my lovely ladies.

(What are those two crazy barbie heads doing on my piano???)

genmaicha macha green tea

We LOVE Japanese green tea and get ours from the local Korean-Japanese store. The stuff at your local grocery store just doesn’t have the same aroma. I especially like Genmaicha and Macha, mixed together. Hot tea is SO perfect for this crazy, constant rain we’re getting.

THE END RESULT???

Since the girls made several, I tell them to pick their favorite.

I was able to fix my picture to a somewhat-satisfied state.

It’s called…

MUSHU ON CRACK.

(No, I’m not advocating crack.)

Really a super-duper fantastic night with my ladies, chiling and coloring.
