Tour de Metropolis: Biking, burgers, and honeysuckles.

As you all know, our visitors get the Jane and Dick Bike Tour de Metropolis.

Luckily, we have enough bikes for J Lo and her boys, Will and Carlton.

Several people have gotten the great privilege of going on this tour.

Maybe I need to open a bike tour or bike rental business. LOL

FIVE GUYS BURGER

It’s around dinner time and everyone is hungry so we stop for a bite to eat at 5 Guys Burger. Love this place.

The burgers are cooked fresh and all the  burger toppings are free. Dick and I love all the toppings and get almost all of them.

They give you so much fries at Five Guys that often a small is enough for our small family of four.

Oh, and Five Guys also gives you free peanuts on the shell that are REALLY GOOD.

IMG_7697-53

This is a LOADED HOT DOG with practically all the same toppings as the burger.

I don’t know what it is with boys and their fascination to swing long skinny things around.

Unfortunately, they don’t outgrow this when they get older either.

GREENWAY

The sun was going down and the air was just that perfect temperature so next stop on the Tour de Metropolis is the GREENWAY.

IMG_7712-47

Shortly after we were on our way to the Greenway, we had a little BOOBOO.

IMG_7715-44

Like car accidents, all the gawkers have to stop and see.

You know how you hate it when traffic is backed up from all the RUBBERNECKERS. I learned this term while living up north in Detroit. A rubbernecker is one whose neck is like rubber and able to stretch and spin around so that one can see accidents that have occurred as one is driving by. We all complain about rubberneckers but, when it’s YOUR TURN, as you are nearing the accident you CAN’T HELP but gawk like EVERYONE else!

Being the boy that he is, Will was excitedly biking and not paying attention when he had tipped his bike over.

No matter. It’s nothing. This is the SECOND time (and not his last) he’s fallen since we started biking today. We keep on.

Yes, all the pictures are of everyone’s BACKS. I am not physically able nor skilled enough on a bicycle to RUBBERNECK and ride with one hand while taking a picture in the other hand, looking in the opposite direction from the way I’m riding. It was not too long ago that I was finally able to bike with one hand.

THE EXERCISE STOP

We stop for the kids to play at this EXERCISE area that is along the greenway.

The kids are playing “doctor” with Will’s wound, because dabbing an open wound with flowers is always a good idea.

See how they’ve smeared his blood everywhere?

Something about watching Dick work out that is quite enjoyable.

THE SWEET TASTE OF NATURE’S NECTAR

When I was a kid, one of my fondest memories is of the sweet sensations of honeysuckles.

IMG_7778-20

I don’t know why but getting that ONE DROP of nectar was such a thrill.

As we were biking, I could smell their sweetness all around us so I show the kids how they too can enjoy that ONE DROP of sweetness.

IMG_7792-17

First you get your honeysuckle.

IMG_7805-13

White or yellow, I think it’s the same. However, the kids are adamant the yellow ones are better.

Second, you pinch the butt off the flower bud, slowing pulling out the stem from the middle.

IMG_7796-16

When you pull this stem out, it brings with it that coveted ONE DROP.

IMG_7811-8

Lastly, thoroughly enjoy that natural sweetness.

Delicious!

Hey likes it, he really really likes it!

They go back for more.

Well, I certainly wasn’t going to just sit and watch.
