Dinner at Katsuya Sushi on low key and fabulous New Year’s Eve.

I have never really partied on New Year’s Eve. I always spend it at home, chillin. I think it’s because it’s cold and I really don’t want to venture out. Plus, with all the drunks out there, I would rather be with my family.

As you can imagine, there’s tons to do in LA for New Year’s Eve but Dick and I want a low key evening, just enjoying the family. Tonight, it’s Dick, the girls and I, and Mamma F.

Dick adores his Mamma.

Being the spontaneous family that we are, we decide to drive down Ventura Blvd and pick a sushi place along the way. After passing 15 or so sushi places, we finally decide on Katsuya, an incredibly delicious sushi restaurant that has several locations all over LA. We’re at the one in Encino.

We start out with soup and salad. Everyone orders Miso soup while I have the Clam Miso with Enoki Mushrooms. Yum!

The salad was so good, I forgot to take a picture until I was almost done. It was so simple but the tangy, soy dressing was to die for!

Now time for some serious, spectacular, scrumptous SUSHI!

Ok, someone grabs a Toro Tuna before I can get a picture. If you don’t know what Toro is, it is FATTY TUNA, the best and most super tender, moist cut of the tuna coming from the belly. It’s like the “filet mignon” of tuna cuts. On the right is their version of the California Roll.

We must be really hungry because I don’t get a picture of the veggie tempura until it’s almost gone too.

So when the salmon with caviar came out, I made everyone wait until I took a picture because it was just so beautiful. Salmon, with bits of red onion in a creamy sauce inside, topped off with caviar, sitting on a slice of cucumber…accompanied with a bit of seaweed salad.

We also order one of Lucy’s favorites, crispy spicy tuna laying on a bed of sprouts and their custom japanese mayo. Quite delicious!

After dinner, they serve us some sweet and juicy sliced oranges but we also order some dessert…

An order of green tea ice cream…not pictured because the kids devoured it and this perfectly, not too sweet and creamy coffee creme brulee. Oh, I’ve died and gone to heaven for reals.
