Life is extremely busy for us these days. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad but…it is what it is and we’re rolling with the punches. There’s never a dull moment, at least not for me. The girls may disagree but, whatever, kids are always complaining about being bored. Well, today was definitely not a boring day for them.
THE MORNING
The day started off with breakfast and a good cleaning of the house. Dick is coming home after being in Los Angeles for two weeks again and I want the house clean for him when he gets back. There’s nothing worse than coming home to a dirty house. Well, I don’t like a dirty house anyway but we’re so busy that it’s not always as clean as I like it to be. It takes a good couple of hours and the girls are helping out by cleaning their room and the play room. Then, it’s time to head out for ice skating lessons.
Monk is all dressed up and prepared for the cold. I had advised them not to bring Monk as we would all be skating but they insisted on bringing her, saying she could watch by the sidelines.
FIRST STOP: ICE SKATING
Thelma has a lesson but is also practicing for an upcoming competition, her very first.
Louise is now a new fan of ice skating and loves her lessons.
The red bow seems to be a permanent fixture to her head these days.
Where is Monk??? I thought she was going to watch by the sidelines.
In all the excitement to skate, Monk has been left behind on the benches inside.
Poor thing.
(Love the shoes btw Monk!)
SECOND STOP: FANNY MAE’S OFFICE
Fanny Mae is being forced to move out of her office so that renovations to the offices can be done at her place of work. My Mom is a Senior Project Engineer at an Environmental Consulting Firm. She is a super-smart Chemical Engineer that designs these massive filtration systems to clean the water we drink, removing potent chemicals that leak from gas stations into the sewer. I think her company also assists in oil spills and that kind stuff.
Since she’s moving out of her office, she wanted the girls to visit before she had to move. So, I took them down there. I haven’t been in ages so it’s a nice visit for me too. As you can see, they’re still in their ice skating gear.
Look who gets to tag along again. Monk!
We actually didn’t have to wait. Thelma just liked trying out the seats and I like how the pictures turned out.
We meander thru a bunch of hallways to get to Fanny Mae’s office.
As soon as we get to Fanny Mae’s office, the kids start exploring and pretending to be at work. So cute!
Monk has a better seat and view this time.
Oh, what’s this I see???
An Olan Mills picture of me and Lucy Lu when I was like 5 and she was like 3. Does it look like us??
She also has a montage of her favorite pics the girls when they were wee little. Awww, so adorable!
I’m so glad they get to see what their Grandma does. Great memories for them. It’s our own “Take your granddaughters to work day!” Grandma had a fantastic time showing off her grandkids to her co-workers.
THIRD STOP: CAR AUCTION
I leave the girls to hang out with Grandma for a few hours while I headed to the car auction to settle some business there. It doesn’t take me long at the auction then I come home to clean up the yard some.
FOURTH STOP: LEAF BLOWING
We have bazillions of trees and they shed a massive amount of leaves. Although they haven’t all fallen, I want to go ahead and do the first round. Makes it easier.
There’s a ton of pics of the leaf blowing so it’s going to be in a separate post but I spend about an hour and a half just doing the backyard and the front porch. I still haven’t gotten to finish the front yard but it’ll have to wait. I have to wrap presents for a birthday party the girls were invited to.
WRAPPING PRESENTS
FIFTH STOP: BIRTHDAY PARTY
It took us thirty minutes to get to the birthday party and since it’s dark and I’m not familiar with the roads to my friend’s house, I’m not inclined to leave and come back later to pick up the girls. I ask my friend if she cares if I crash the birthday party too. The party was super fun, full of arts and crafts and lots of girls running around. Thanks ladies for a great time!
A full day finally ends when we get home, which is like 10:30pm. Whew! I’m worn out.
