Ashereste Recipe: Persian Vegetable and Bean Hearty Soup. So great for cold weather.
By Jane on February 17, 2010
Ashereste is a Persian hearty soup that could easily be a meal on its own. This is an EXCELLENT soup for the cold, cold winter we’re having. Because this soup takes a while to make, I usually make a bunch and either have people over, give it away, or freeze it to eat another day. [...]

Ice covers Metropolis. Schools are out…well…not all of them.
By Jane on December 16, 2010
It’s been damn cold here in Metropolis. Last night, we just got covered with a blanket of ice. One of the great things about homeschooling is that if there is inclement weather, it makes no difference to us. My kids are quite dissaapointed by this. “What do you mean we’re still having school?” -Jane, Homeschool Mom.

An unconventional Christmas Day spent at Santa Monica Beach.
By Jane on December 27, 2009
We spent Christmas Day this year chillin’ at Santa Monica Beach. Somehow it doesn’t really feel like Christmas when you’re at the beach on a sunny day and its about 60F. The kids are so excited to be at the beach. They could care less that the water is FREEZING! Mark Anthony went to get us [...]

Traditional Japanese Ramen in Little Tokyo.
By Jane on January 2, 2010
One of my absolute favorite meals when I used to live in Japan is the traditional, not instant, Japanese Ramen (Pronounced by the Japanese as La-men because they can’t say “r”s.). I miss this ramen SO SO MUCH that sometimes it makes me all achy inside. When I lived in Japan, this noodle soup [...]

You don’t see motorcycle riders like this in my neck of the woods.
By Jane on July 8, 2010
As I’m driving around Toronto, I spot this dude on a motorcyle. He catches my eye because the motorcyle guys around where I live don’t look or dress like this dude. Actually, this look would have totally passed in my neck of the woods if it had not been for the Parasuco bag. Only a METROSEXUAL [...]

By Jane on March 14, 2011
So, I’ve had my LG phone for about 2 years now and I HATE it! The touch screen sucks and I fat finger and call random people all the time. Dick has been bugging me to get a new phone…imagine that! A husband who has to beg his wife to buy something new! Well, I [...]

Our first snow this year! It WAS a Winter Wonderland in Metropolis!
By Jane on December 5, 2009
Thankfully, Thelma and Louise got to see some snow today. They were starting to think it didn’t exist. Metropolis doesn’t snow often but it used to. Growing up, I remember the snow coming up to my knees…albeit, my knees were closer to the ground then. Still, we got snow and it was always SUPER exciting [...]

Getting kids to cooperate for family Christmas Pictures ain’t easy.
By Jane on December 10, 2010
One of my friends wanted to have some holiday pictures of her and her kids. So, we set up a shoot where the theme would be making cookies together. We decided to start out by the fireplace first and get some shots there before they started cooking, in case their clothes were to get dirty. [...]

Unless I take pictures of myself, I would never have any. Now you know why most pictures of me have one arm extended and half of my face is lopped off. Of course, Dick says it’s because my head is so big and only half of it would fit on the camera. Such the comedian [...]
Potato Crusted Basmati Persian Rice with Saffron.
By Jane on February 21, 2011
Persians love a crispy crust (tadik) when they make their rice. Oftentimes, it is the MOST SOUGHT AFTER part of the rice. Now Persians use Basmati rice, which are long grains of fragrant white rice that don’t stick together like Asian Jasmine rice. Now it’s best to go to your local Middle Eastern or Indian [...]

The girls pretending to be preggars, like their Mommy. PREGGAR LOUISE Oh and the hat and arm warmers are from Thelma and Louise’s best friend, Kristen Stewart. They’re from a company called Litte Miss Matched, where everything “matches” but is not exactly alike. See how the stripes are different colors on the hands? Aren’t they [...]

I’ve decided that I don’t need an occasion to dress the way I like. I’m going to do whatever makes me happy and wear what makes me happy…like when I went grocery shopping in my PJs the other day. Today, I’m going Goth and biking out to Starbucks because the weather is amazing for January…it’s [...]

She-Ra turns 25!!! I have the POWER!!!
By Jane on October 6, 2010
For those 80s babies like myself, I just came across an article about one of my favorite cartoons growing up. SHE-RA! She-ra was the female, kick-ass version of HE-MAN, who fought against evil, was a strong, intelligent female and I wanted to be her! Watching religiously daily and wanting to have the POWER, I would [...]
