So, we have one room left in one of our houses that are for rent in Gotham City. There are already two dudes in the house and I’ve been trying to rent the third for some time now. With people going into foreclosure left and right, they’re renting their houses out way below value and flooding the rental market.
Finding new tenants is an arduous task. Sometimes you have to deal with so much ridiculousness that you just don’t know what to do with yourself. I just had this guy call me and is inquiring about the room. Now, I have to mention that he is Indian and speaks with an Indian accent because well, he was and it makes more sense for you to know this and fully picture the conversation. I’m not hatin’, I actually have Indian friends. He sounds fairly young, is a young professional and was just recently hired by a large company uptown.
Anyway, he asks me the usual, rent, deposit, terms. He then tells me how he lives too far from work and he doesn’t have a car and has to rely on someone else and they’re not reliable so he wants to find something closer to work. Ugh! A long-winder who wants to tell me his whole life’s story. Anyway, I tell him the house is about 15 walking minutes to his work.
Then he says to me,
“Well, if I don’t have a car and the house is too far away from my work, what if it rains?”
What??? Did I just hear him right? What if it RAINS?!?!?! This totally catches me off guard because I’m not expecting such a question and I think it’s absurd that he’s asking me this. DUDE, the room does not include utilites or LIFE COACHING! My response was…
“Um, maybe you should get an umbrella? A raincoat? I don’t know. Maybe invest in a bike?”
If I should rent the room to this young gentleman, should I then expect to get calls like…
“What should I eat for dinner? What do I do if the restaurant is closed and I have to walk in the rain?”
That was amusing.
