While Lucy was in town visiting, she rented a movie for us to watch. OKURIBITO or in English…DEPARTURES. Winner of the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, this was an EXCEPTIONAL movie. Moving, tender, loving, funny…it is an emotional-filled movie that is food for the soul!!
The story tells of a young cellist who’s symphony in Tokyo had gone out of business. Therefore, he returns to his small hometown with his wife and ends up working in a funeral home. The characters are deep, the actors who portray them are magnificent, the cinematography is superb and for me, the story made looking at death and dying a bit more peaceful and elegant.
If you are a parent, you will be touched and moved by the main character’s inner turmoil at having his father abandon their family at the young age of 6.
If you liked Little Miss Sunshine, you’ll love Departures.
I think when I die, I want a Japanese burial.
Simply an EXQUISITE MOVIE.
You MUST SEE this one!!
