It seems that around this time every year, when it starts to warm up, I get this urge to paint. Yes, this Jane loves to paint.
I’ve been wanting to do the girls room for a while. The last time, I just painted some polka dots all over it with leftover paint I had over the mauve color I painted it when we moved in. I love the mauve but it just doesn’t go with my wood color floors and the wood bed frame. Needless to say, none of it matched at all and I hated it as soon as I did it but I didn’t have the energy to go back to fix it.
TECHNO COLOR
Now I had bought a comforter set that I was going to use for the girls room but once I got to Sherwin Williams, I became inspired by one of their brochures (you know, the ones intended to give you ideas) and decided to go with that instead and return the comforter set I bought. It just wasn’t fun enough for the girls.
This color palette is so fun and because I love pairing greens and blues, we’re going to give it a shot.
WARNING: When selecting colors, one must be careful because what you see in the brochure or in the store WILL NOT look the same at home. Everything changes with lighting! I decide to just wing it anyway…fingers crossed.
PRE-CLEANING
Before we get to the fun part, there’s the crap part of getting ready to paint. The worst part of painting is the pre-clean and the post clean. You have to pre-clean so you can get all the crap out of the way. I get started cleaning up the girls room.
The girls share the room and this queen platform bed. Although the girls want a different bed set, I haven’t found one I’m keen on yet so we’re going to keep this until I do. Anyways, we love this bed and it’s super comfy.
BRUSHING IT
So, you won’t believe how lazy I am. After getting everything ready, I realize that I don’t have the roller pad that goes over the roller. I thought we had some but WE DON’T. Sucks because the Sherwin Williams is closed now (I’m starting late in the evening) and if I want a roller, I have to go to Home Depot. Too far. I could also go to Walmart but I’m just too lazy to and I want to get started. Plus, the room is not that big so I think I can handle it. So, I’m BRUSHING IT!
Because I am the ULTIMATE LAZY painter, I don’t tape up any edges, I don’t lay down any newspapers or rags or cloths to catch spillage or droppings. I used to do this and it’s messy and just takes up too much time.
I have a wet rag and that’s it!
So when there’s drippage or droppings, I just wipe it with my wet rage and keep rinsing it out to keep it clean.
HERE WE GO…
Crap. I’m not sure I’m loving the color. As in my warning before, THE COLOR DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE BROCHURE! It’s too yellow and I’m sure it’s because the room is dark and I have tungsten (yellow) lighting.
But, I’ve already started and it’s nighttime…it may look different in daylight. I’m hopeful and proceed.

It takes me a couple of hours to paint the first coat and then I let it dry overnight.
I’m planning on going to get the roller pad in the morning.
Ok, well, let’s just pray this looks better in the daytime.
