It came to me at the last minute that my cousin from Australia, MIA, needs the FULL COUNTRY EXPERIENCE before she heads on to her next destination…May-hee-Co. Yes, Mexico.
Now going country line dancing isn’t exactly my usual scene but I’ve been before…albeit about 15 years ago but I’m no newbie and actually, I’ve always had fun.
BLAST INTO THE PAST
I remember one time, when I was about 19, my friend (Betty Boop who I have not mentioned and have but barely a few pictures of because I hardly ever see her but she’s one of my bestest friends. You know who you are, BIOTCH!) and I decided to go to a country club that truely was out in the country. Fo realz, this place was out in the sticks. I can’t remember the name of it…Betty, do you remember? Anyway, the locals would come up to me like I was some kind of tourist attraction.
That night, I had a guy that was skinny like a beanpole, about one foot shorter than me (with his boots ON) and had a belt buckle as big as his head…which was adorned with an extra large cowboy hat. What kind of cowboy would he be without chaps and boots with spurs? Yes, if my memory serves me correctly, he fit the bill to a tee.
I was playing pool, when he came up an cornered me.
“You ain’t from ’round here are yuh?”
This isn’t the first time I’ve been asked this. I get a real kick out of it.
“Wanna dance?”
Ummmm, besides being too short, I have a minimum requirement that you must have all your teeth before I will dance with you. However, to put it nicely, I’m pretty sure I told him I had a boyfriend (It wasn’t a lie, I really did.)
COTTON EYED JOE’S
Since we were leaving to go to Gotham City soon, the only time we had to go out was on a Thursday night. Ladies night. I call up my cousins and my dancing fein friend, June Cleaver. Yes, besides being an artist, June is also an avid dancer and my token white friend for the night!
As soon as we get in the door, my cousin is already being mistaken the only other Asian chick that is already in the joint. I guess to everyone here, all Asians DO look alike. She tries to explain to him that we just walked in. He thinks we’re trying to pull a number on him.
Of course, when we walk in, everyone turns and looks at us…it’s a pack of Asian girls and one very tall caucasian. Whatevs, I’m here to have a good time!
First thing we do? We hit the bar of course!
I order some sweet, fruity, girly drink…I believe it’s called an upside down pineapple cake or something like that. Not bad. June Cleaver is on a mission…she suggests doing a shot. I’m down! A shot of Tarantula (flavored tequila) all around.
Ok, that was too good. Going to have to remember this one.
Yeah, I think we’re ready now…
LINE DANCING
I was pleasantly surprised when the DJ was playing alot of modern hip hop, only every one was doing line dances. It looked like so much fun but I didn’t know how to do any of the steps. So, I just hopped up the side (not ready to hit the stage yet) and tried to follow along.
Stomp two times…turn to left…one stomp…now turn to right…now SLIDE!
I think I need a few lessons but LINE DANCING is fun! Now, granted, it’s much more fun when you go in a big group.
After a few songs, they decide to allow some free style dancing. Now here’s where we get down!
POOL TIME
My other cousins have to leave early but MIA, June Cleaver and I are not done yet!
YES! I spot some pool tables.
One of my favorite things to do when I’m out is to shoot pool! I used to skip a lot of class just to go shoot pool and used to play daily when I lived in Japan.
Nowadays, I’m lucky if I get to play once every six months.
Since there’s only three of us, I teach June and MIA how to play cut throat.
THE BOYS START COMING ROUND
Funny how when you have a table of girls playing pool, the guys slowing start coming around.
This dude insists on taking several pics until he’s sure we get a good one.
I sense someone has been drinking a bit.
The guys buy us a round of Yager bombers, which I don’t think I’ve ever had before so I was shocked when they came out in these huge beer mugs.
We decide to play doubles. The guys were set on playing girls verses guys. Full of testosterone, these military boys were SURE they were going to kick our asses. I’m always up for a challenge! It’s even more fun when they are so cocky.
One of the dudes was flirting with June Cleaver and was trying to distract her during one of her shots.
So of course my girl decides to return the favor.
The game comes to a sudden halt when the guys, in their drunken stupor, totally forget that they are SOLIDS and hit our last STRIPE ball (Yes, we were ahead). Strangely, the guys get all pissed off, call us cheaters and leave before we had a chance to THOROUGHLY kick their ass. Winning by default in this case is just fine with me.
Whatever, MIA decides to kick it up a notch and we all take turns riding the bull. Yes, this Jane rides the bull! Patience…Video to come…
