I have a friend who is working all over the world. I’m so jealous. I miss traveling the world. We worked together at Ford Motor about 10 years ago. Shit! It’s been that long???
This is a picture of us at a Pimps and Ho’s party that my friend had. (Hostess Ho). So Traveling Pimp posts on his Facebook that he’s in Marrakech. I’m like:
“Where is Marrakech? I opted to take World History instead of Geography in HS.”
Which is true, you remember I was going for that “Honors” Diploma that doesn’t mean crap? I thought it would “look” better for college applications if I took World History instead of Geography, because it was harder. Yet another class that I made no use of when I could have used Geography much more. Shows you, you should go with your heart instead of what you “think” will supposedly “look” better.
Anyway, I decide to call Dick to see if he knows. I secretly want him to NOT know the answer because he always jokes that I don’t know anything about culture.
“Hey honey. Where is Marrakech?”
(I’m pronouncing it just like it’s spelled.)
“What?”
“Where is Marrakech? Marrakech!”
“Who?”
He said “who”. LOL. I’m getting all giggly inside because I’m SO ready to say “See? You don’t know everything!”. Then he goes on and says…
“Marakesh? You mean Marakesh? It’s Morraco. That’s how the locals pronounce Morraco.”
I verified with Wikipedia, click HERE to read for yourself about Marrakech. SHIT! He does know everything! He’s laughing now and jokes with me with an accent…
“You’re so il-lit-er-ate, so uncultured. I have to teach you everything! And it’s pronounced ‘Mar-a-kesh’…not ‘Mar-a-kech’. Ju don know nothing!”
I know that in the English language that it is incorrect to have two negatives in the same sentence …so take THAT! Ok, so not that impressive considering he knows where “Marakesh” is.
I feel like a ra-tard. (If you’ve watched “The Hangover“, you know how I’m saying this.)

I’m still bummed I missed that party. I think it was after I moved to SF…
I guess that only applies to the picture, not the post. I too wasn’t totally sure where Marrakech/Marakesh is, but I would have nailed the pronunciation. If that makes you feel any better.
