Oscar has this unique way of sitting. It always looks like he’s ready to take a dump. Lucy says it’s JUST the way he sits. Fine. But the dang thing FARTS ALOT so maybe he’s stopped up or something and sits like that because he’s constipated. Just a theory Lucy.

Thelma helps me with Breakfast: Grits and omelet eggs with sausage.
By Jane on November 6, 2009
I’m a Vietnamese country bumpkin at heart. I know, weird huh? Thelma wants to help me with breakfast and we’re having grits with our special version of omelet with sausage. GRITS If you don’t know what grits are, you’re missing out! (Click HERE to see what Wiki can tell you about it.) A popular dish [...]

You don’t see motorcycle riders like this in my neck of the woods.
By Jane on July 8, 2010
As I’m driving around Toronto, I spot this dude on a motorcyle. He catches my eye because the motorcyle guys around where I live don’t look or dress like this dude. Actually, this look would have totally passed in my neck of the woods if it had not been for the Parasuco bag. Only a METROSEXUAL [...]

Too Young to Bank? Not at Suntrust.
By Jane on September 10, 2009
Thelma and Louise just each earned $9 each from their lemonade sale and given that they not immune to the shopping bug, Dick and I wanted them to learn some money and banking basics. We started by opening separate savings accounts for each of the girls. Using the profits from their lemonade sale, Thelma and [...]
Shopping at the market for a unique gift.
By Jane on September 22, 2010
Lucy’s birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her something unique. What I wanted to get her was a nice apron, since my dear sister (who never used to cook) is now cooking. (Lucy often even uses my recipes.) But, when I shopped around, I found all the aprons I looked at to [...]

MUSHED AND STRANDED on the Interstate: The first time I ever ran out of gas.
By Jane on January 25, 2011
The first time I ever ran out of gas was 11 years ago when I was living in Toronto. I was on my way to work at the Ford F150 plant and out of nowhere, my car starts to slow down on the QEW (An interstate in Toronto). At the time, I owned a brand [...]

Some New Moon pictures to tease you if you didn’t see it over the opening weekend.
By Jane on November 30, 2009
Dick and I finally took the girls to go see New Moon. All weekend they were asking when we would go. I have to admit, I was very slow to get on the Twilight bandwagon. When Twilight first came out, I thought it was some scary vampire movie. I don’t watch horror movies so I [...]

Back into the groove. Homeschooling at Starbucks again.
By Jane on September 29, 2011
Because the weather was so nice, and because I can’t seem to stay away, the whole family ventured to Starbucks to homeschool. It’s days like this that make homeschooling more fun and I don’t have to be muttering under my breath between gritted teeth, “I hate teaching, I hate teaching!” Usually, I’m saying that when [...]

Getting Out Tea Stains with Oxy Clean
By Jane on February 15, 2010
We’re Persian, so we drink a lot of Persian Black Tea. We like to drink it hot and iced. My container for the iced tea is stained pretty badly. But, it’s impossible to clean and is only getting worse. How do I scrub this out with a sponge? I’ve tried and it doesn’t work! OXY CLEAN [...]

We’re done with our hike thru Runyon Canyon and it’s lunchtime. After hiking 3.5 miles with no breakfast, we’re starving and craving sushi. We basically have the entire restaurant to ourselves.

Louise runs a 5K with Girls on the Run!!
By Jane on May 5, 2011
Louise often runs with her Daddy and wanted to join a running group. Dick found one called Girls on the Run. So, for about 8 weeks or so, Louise had been going twice a week to practice. At the end of that term, they were to run a 5K…which is a little over 3 miles!! Three miles!!! I’m [...]

Jane: Possible Pimp-tress of Rides???
By Jane on February 10, 2010
WHAT IS DICK DOING? Seems like I’m doing all the work while we’re in Gotham City? Well, yes, I’d like to think so but actually, I have to give Dick “some” credit. While I’m slaving away, scrubbing nastiness, Dick is running around trying to finalize the purchase and transport of a new car. We’ve bought [...]

By Jane on October 23, 2010
My mom sends me tons of forwards….some get read, some don’t. This one was a cute one, full of pictures of Japanese lunch boxes. The Japanese are all about PRESENTATION and it shows! But, who has the kind of time to put something like this together! They’re like pieces of art. Food Art!

Last day with cousins. Boo-hoo.
By Jane on June 7, 2010
It’s the last day with J Lo, Will and Carlton and we have had such a great time with them here. It’s always hard when people visit me and then they leave. You get used to having them around and it’s always supersad to see them go.

A foggy / sunny Monday Morning.
By Jane on January 18, 2010
I woke up this morning to a lovely fog AND sunshine. It’s a great start to a beautiful Monday. I can only say that though because I don’t have to do the 9-5 like other people. I used to HATE Mondays. THE BACKYARD You know how the first thing you do when you wake up [...]

We visit a beautiful garden belonging to a Historic House for Easter.
By Jane on April 5, 2010
My mom read in the news paper somewhere that this historic house was having an Easter thing for kids so we go. An egg hunt was held in the gardens, which are just beautiful here. I think that this place is used as a venue for weddings. It’s gorgeous!

Jane, scissor sistah, breaks out the shears again. This time on Taylor.
By Jane on August 30, 2010
My cousin Taylor has this incredibly LONG and THICK hair. She was looking for a change so I helped her out. Sometimes long and straight is kinda boring. We take quite a bit off. Those who choose to use me to cut their hair do so at their own risk as I have no formal [...]

Using the Oreck Orbitor as an alternative to steam shampooing rugs and carpets.
By Jane on January 19, 2012
Now that Benz is mobile, we’ve been wanting to clean the rugs. My mom especially wants to clean her carpets but doesn’t like the shampooing wet method. She wanted to try Oreck’s Orbitor dry cleaning method and since she was already renting it for a day, she let me borrow it so we can clean [...]
