I know it’s weird to be learning how to cook Persian food from a Vietnamese woman. But, I’ve seen the Persian recipes out there, and there are NO PICTURES! So, for those young Persians who don’t know how to cook or for those who just want to try some Persian yumminess, here is a picture-filled [...]

Major rain storm takes down THREE of our trees.
By Jane on April 25, 2010
With all the tornados going on in Mississippi, we’re getting the aftereffects here in Metropolis. Dick, the girls and I were spending the night at my parents house when we just had a HUGE rain storm. When I came home this morning to get started on the million of things I need to do, this [...]

We walk to Chinatown for some late eats with my Uncle Diddy: Star Athlete.
By Jane on July 21, 2010
After Eminem, MIA and I closed down Andy’s Pool Hall, we walked back to my Aunt’s place to find UNCLE DIDDY was still awake. DIDDY: THE STAR ATHLETE Back in the day, Uncle Diddy was a STAR ATHLETE in his youth and exceptionally good-looking for a Vietnamese boy. Most are short and he’s almost 6-feet…quite [...]

Translations from Aussie to American English.
By Jane on April 15, 2010
Whilst (Aussies say this alot, which is where Lucy picked it up from when she lived in Melbourne and has permeated into this Jane’s vocabulary.) my cousin was here visiting us from Australia, it was difficult understanding her at times. Not because of her accent, which is supercool, but because they have their own vocabulary! [...]

Yet Another Roadtrip: Picking up Daddy & Visiting with Friends
By Jane on November 18, 2009
It’s time to retreive Daddy since he’s been gone for over 2 weeks in LaLa Land (A.k.a. LA, Los Angeles). We found a great reasonable flight that is direct but it’s a 3 hour drive to this airport. Dick’s flight is supposed to arrive at 3:30pm and so I’m rushing to hit the road after Mother-Daughter [...]

Finding new tenants is an arduous task.
By Jane on December 5, 2009
So, we have one room left in one of our houses that are for rent in Gotham City. There are already two dudes in the house and I’ve been trying to rent the third for some time now. With people going into foreclosure left and right, they’re renting their houses out way below value and flooding [...]

HAPPY St. Patrick’s Day! We celebrate…with GREEN PASTA ALFREDO???
By Jane on March 17, 2010
HAPPY ST. PATRICKS DAY!!! For St. Patrick’s Day we celebrate at our Homeschool Co-op with a lot of green, including the food. Everyone is to wear GREEN, of course. This is no biggie for me…half the things in my closet are green.

My parents go to a Trannie Show in Thailand.
By Jane on March 3, 2011
In addition to visiting Vietnam, my parents, aunts and uncle-in-law head to Thailand for 4 nights/five days. It’s ultra cheap to go to Thailand from Vietnam: It’s an ALL-INCLUSIVE package that comes with airfare, accommodations, transportation, shows and food for 5 days was only $400 per person. A chartered trip where they take you around [...]

Man, do I love watermelon. Oh, and being lazy to spit out seeds, I prefer seedless. I’m so excited that watermelon season has started! I pretty much live off watermelon in the summer. That and corn on the cob! Looks like I tried to stash one under my dress no? (Which you may recognize. [...]

My Cinderella Girls working hard to clean their room.
By Jane on December 30, 2010
After we get the old bed out, there’s still plenty of cleaning to do prior to moving in and setting up the new beds. The girls reminded me of this phrase that I’ve must have repeated before, “It always gets worse before it gets better Mommy!” Yep, true dat, girls. But I’ve trained these girls [...]

Kenny Chesney premiering his 3-D movie in Metropolis?
By Jane on April 14, 2010
The girls wanted to go biking so we were heading out to Starbucks and Target. By sheer coincidence, as we were coming up to the parking lot, we see cops everywhere. Looks like another premiere. Remember the last time the TWILIGHT cast was here in our little town of Metropolis. So, we were curious as to [...]

My Asian, nearly non-existent eye lashes definitely need mascara!
By Jane on December 15, 2010
I’m Asian and we’re not really known for having long eyelashes. Actually, Asians are lucky if they even have an inkling of lashes. Unlike my Persian-mixed daughters who inherited long luscious lashes from her father’s side, I am not as fortunate as they are. Therefore, I need a little assistance from the mascara wand. My [...]

Craigslist goes politically correct OVERBOARD.
By Jane on August 13, 2010
I was posting an ad on Craiglist for one of our properties that is rented by the room. There’s already one guy living in the house and so I put ” Currently, there is one male who occupies the master bedroom.”. Imagine my surprise when I get the following ERROR message: I can’t use the [...]

From SKIRT to DRESS: If you don’t like it, then you shoulda put a belt on it!
By Jane on November 10, 2010
As we sort through the clothes to keep during our CLOSET CLEANSING, I come across a skirt that the girls say they DON’T WANT anymore. I always have to sort through the stuff they dub “DON’T WANT/FIT” because even when they say they don’t like something, I know better…you know, cause I’m Mom! Funny thing [...]

Jane, amateur haircutter, strikes again.
By Jane on May 20, 2010
The boys are in need of a bit of a haircut. So, since I cut J LO’s hair the last time I was in LA, she wanted me to cut the boys hair. As I have said before, I’m definitely no professional and I’ve never been to beauty or hair school. I’ve cut women’s, girls’ [...]

Homemade chicken noodle soup to stay warm in this cold weather.
By Jane on January 16, 2010
My kids love chicken noodle soup, especially when it’s cold. You don’t need a ton of ingredients and can easily throw it together. This time, I just used what I had. Since I had some chicken thighs in the fridge, I used that to make the broth. It’s fattier, but unfortunately, that’s the fat that makes it tasty.

I was taking my girls to karate when OUT OF NOWHERE, a bird flies right in front of my car! Now, I’m one of those that swerve and NEARLY KILL MYSELF to avoid hitting an animal but this poor thing didn’t even give me a chance. When I saw it dart out in front of [...]

Japanese Lunch Boxes: Presentation is key. Food Art for your tummy.
By Jane on October 23, 2010
My mom sends me tons of forwards….some get read, some don’t. This one was a cute one, full of pictures of Japanese lunch boxes. The Japanese are all about PRESENTATION and it shows! But, who has the kind of time to put something like this together! They’re like pieces of art. Food Art!

EVERYDAY OSHO: Illuminiation. Chicken Soup for this Jane’s Soul.
By Jane on January 26, 2011
Throughout my life I’ve been turmoiled internally and it’s recently (in the past few years) that I’ve come to appreciate all the stresses in my life. Instead of looking at them as horrible things that have happened to me, I can now look at them as learning experiences and appreciate the challenges that come into [...]

Here’s a Valentine’s card that Dick sent me in 1999 when I was living in Detroit. In case you can’t read Dick’s wonderful handwriting: “This is for you & Barfi (our dog). You guys are the best, especially you, only you, always only you. Happy Valentine’s Day.” Yes, he can be quite a sweetie. Hope [...]
