Every year I think, THIS is going to be the year I’m going to decorate for Halloween. I love Halloween but inevitably, each year, we’d be lucky if we have a pumpkin in the front yard. Consistently, this has been the plan for the last 5 years and consistently every year, no Halloween decorations. However, [...]

Homeschooling at Starbucks. That’s right, Starbucks!
By Jane on September 17, 2009
Sometimes the kids need a change of environment when we homeschool so I decide to move the classroom to STARBUCKS. Yes, Starbucks….because when you homeschool, you can do that! We take our butts, our books, and our bikes out to the land of Java so that Mommy can also get her much needed caffeine.

Tall Caramel Macchiato, extra shot, in a for-here mug please?
By Jane on September 28, 2009
Today, at Starbucks, I didn’t distract myself with a book or crossword puzzle or cigarette like I usually do. I just sat there and enjoyed the view, happy to be out of the confines of my house, breathing the fresh air and away from the memories of illness that has plagued us lately.

Jane and Dick get their Halloween on as Cop and Robber.
By Jane on November 4, 2011
Prior to the the kids having their Halloween fun, the adults had gotten their Halloween fun on too! You know I like to dress up so this year, Jane and Dick played Cops and Robbers. I told Dick to grow out his beard to make him look a little scruffier than usual so he let [...]

My favorite toothbrush. Economical and Ecological.
By Jane on September 9, 2010
It is reported that 50 million pounds of toothbrushes are dumped into landfills yearly. That’s alot of freakin’ toothbrushes. I’ve always wanted to recycle and have been just too lazy to. No more excuses and this family finally on the recycle bandwagon. In addition to recycling, I figure why not use ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY toothbrushes? Made by [...]

ODE: For Intelligent Optimists. My new favorite magazine.
By Jane on September 13, 2010
The other day, I biked out to Starbucks for some ME-TIME and was reading my book, Learning from Salmon, and my new favorite magazine…introduced to me by my dear DICK. “You’re so lucky to have me. See how I expand your mind and make you so much smarter?” Ugh. He makes it so difficult for [...]

Jane’s Work Experience Review: My 1st Job. Grocery bagger.
By Jane on February 15, 2010
So, let’s rewind to almost 20 years ago, to my very first job…the every-so-glamorous GROCERY BAGGER! (Yeah, you see those guys in the blue shirt there? That’s what Mommy used to do.) JANE’S 1ST JOB: GROCERY BAGGER (This is actually my first name tag that I kept from this job. Dang, I am like my [...]

How to PROPERLY cut a watermelon.
By Jane on May 21, 2010
It’s watermelon season (well not really but the grocery stores already have the ones imported from Mexico where they have forced grown it so that it would produce fruit for us watermelon lovers who can’t wait until summer)! I loves me some WATERMELON! So sweet and refreshing. Of course I get the SEEDLESS kind. My [...]

Scammers change it up and still trying to fool landlords on Craigslist.
By Jane on March 1, 2012
I am now an expert at spotting scammers on Craigslist who respond to my rental property ads. Remember the blog I posted to warn other landlords of such schemes? (Click HERE for the article). It used to be they would post this long-ass response to my ad telling me how great they are, how flexible [...]

Our first trip to the mountains this summer.
By Jane on June 3, 2010
Every year since I was a kid, we go the mountains during the summer for some FAMILY FUN. Our tradition is that we go to the same spot, pack lunch and just CHILL. My parents, Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, usually go with us and they always have the MOST FABULOUS lunch ready for us. [...]

Seasonal Winter weight gain results in “Food Baby”.
By Jane on November 30, 2009
Yes, it’s that time of the year where my body decides it needs to pack on about ten more pounds (Hopefully that’s it!) in order to stay warm in the winter. Hibernation mode like the bears, ya know. Actually, it started last month…right around Halloween, surprise surprise. I realized this seasonal pattern a few years [...]

Summer may be over but I just got the greatest new dress and I plan on wearing it to the max! This dress gets the CCC (Triple C) rating – chic, comfortable, and CHEAPY! Take from the racks at Ross, the Bohemian style and pattern totally caught my eye. Just my style.
Ross’s is like TJ Maxx where you have to really look through all the racks and if you find something you like in your size, you better get it or someone else will! Imagine my surprise to find out that this small dress is actually an X-large. Yes, X-large!! This hurts the ego but I decided to try it on anyway. Come to find out,BIGGER is sometimes BETTER! It was a super cute DAINTY summer dress.
