Our city of Metropolis does not have large Chinatowns or Asian grocery markets like the bigger cities but it’s enough for us. Dick and I recently went to get some fish. If you want a good variety of fresh fish and at great prices, I would find out where your local Asian grocery store is. [...]

By Jane on October 30, 2009
If you’re looking for something healthy to eat, then look no more. Everything below is cooked in the oven (minus the salad) so it’s not FRIED. Here is my recipe and directions for making Steelhead Trout, sweet potato fries accompanied with a salad and brown rice. Remember, I do not include amounts as I do [...]

Dick gets “new” shoes. Tenant leaves behind a pair of Nike Lebron James 20-5-5.
By Jane on September 1, 2011
We always have “gifts” that the tenants leave behind and it’s usually because they don’t want to move their crap or they just don’t want it anymore. We’ve gotten a stereo, beds, furniture, pots and pans, washer and dryer, etc. While cleaning up the garage of our property, Dick found a pair of men’s tennis [...]

Monk and Ducky: Long time no see.
By Jane on February 12, 2010
Just thought you might be missing Monk and Ducky. It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned them. They’re still around. They’re just chillin’ with their friends. -Jane, Grandma to Monk & Ducky.

Racing up escalators turns to injury…for Jane.
By Jane on August 4, 2010
After spending a few days in Metropolis, it was time for my cousin to head to her next destination, Los Angeles, to see my sister Lucy Lu. Spending the last couple weeks with MIA has been so super fun and it never seems like enough time when I’m with family. Every time my family leaves [...]

Swimming with jellyfish and squid.
By Jane on February 28, 2011
While at the Phu Quoc resort, the family decides to go for a swim in the lovely clear waters. Look how cute Queenie looks. Love the old-school bathing suit! The emerald waters are so clear and beautiful! I’m quite jealous. Love this picture of MIA’s parents. Look what my dad spots swimming amongst them…jelly fish! [...]

Your daily Benz: Grandma knits Benz a blankie.
By Jane on June 24, 2011
My mom has been knitting a blanket for Benz. It’s super nice so I wanted to take some pictures of him with it while he’s still tiny, even though she wasn’t quite done with it. Little man has no eyebrows. This concerns Dick but I’m like, he’s Persian! I don’t think hair is one of [...]

Ok, so I’m going out of order so I could post the Thanksgiving pictures. Back to when we were in Gotham City. As I mentioned, our studio condo is only about 500 sq. ft. so there’s hardly room to move around yet play. However, my girls are able to transcend all that and still have a [...]

Ice covers Metropolis. Schools are out…well…not all of them.
By Jane on December 16, 2010
It’s been damn cold here in Metropolis. Last night, we just got covered with a blanket of ice. One of the great things about homeschooling is that if there is inclement weather, it makes no difference to us. My kids are quite dissaapointed by this. “What do you mean we’re still having school?” -Jane, Homeschool Mom.

Men making beds: Now that I know you know how to do it correctly…
By Jane on February 16, 2010
Of course, I’m always the one making the bed. I like a made bed and hate it when I get ready to go to sleep at night as see a messy bed. Plus, when I sleep, the sheets hardly move but when Dick sleeps, they’re ALL OVER the place! (Which makes my job oh so [...]

If you’re a fan of sweet potatos, you’ll love Baked Butternut Squash.
By Jane on February 21, 2011
It’s been a while since I did a recipe post. Sorry, they take a while to write so it’s hard to find the time. But, the other day I made some Crispy Flounder, Baked Butternut Squash and Potato Crusted Basmati Persian Rice for my family. I was going to put the entire recipes for all [...]

Pomelo: The sweet alternative to Grapefruit.
By Jane on January 30, 2011
What is a Pomelo? It’s the sweeter version of a grapefruit and about three times the size of an orange. I guess Walmart spells it “pummelo”. Same thing. They’re a little pricey (About $2.50-$3.00 each) but are really yummy. I don’t like grapefruit. It’s too bitter for me. But, the pomelo is a great alternative [...]

Sneezing and reminded that I need to practice my kegels more.
By Jane on December 27, 2009
I saw this on a aisle in the toys section during the holidays. They are Little Mommy Baby Achoo dolls. Only Little Momma on the right looks like she she’s had a rough night. Girlfriend must have been sneezing up a storm already. LOL

We dine with Lucy and Ricky. Japanese BBQ!!!
By Jane on February 5, 2010
Before I leave LA to come back to Metropolis, the girls and I dine with Lucy and Ricky as one of our last meals together. They take us to a fantastic restaurant called Gyu-Kaku…a Japanese BBQ restaurant. If you’ve never had Japanese or Korean BBQ (practically the same thing), you are missing out! At the [...]

We’re having BBQ for lunch at our homeschool co-op today, provided by my fellow lunch lady, Laverne. Her husband smoked this pork for over 14 hours and it was extremely moist and tasty!

Some pictures of Louise all dressed up like an adult. For some reason I think she looks like a school teacher. A cute one, of course. She makes me laugh so much. -Jane, Mother of Fashionable Louise.

Eggrolls, Lenny’s Subs, PacMan Carrot Cake and Red Velvet Ghost Cupcakes: Birthday Time!
By Jane on December 21, 2010
It’s Thelma’s 9th birthday and because she had quite the party last year (Click HERE for last year’s birthday in LA.), we decided to let her invite just a handful of friends over for a simple yet intimate gathering. Initially, Thelma wanted to have Persian food. But, Persian food, although super delicious, is time consuming [...]

Thelma and Louise in a Black Nissan 350Z.
By Jane on November 13, 2009
I had to take Thelma and Louise to “work” with me the other day. I had a meeting with the General Manager at one of the car auctions we go to and since there was no sitter (Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac were both at work) they had to tag along. They really didn’t want [...]

Tall Caramel Macchiato, extra shot, in a for-here mug please?
By Jane on September 28, 2009
Today, at Starbucks, I didn’t distract myself with a book or crossword puzzle or cigarette like I usually do. I just sat there and enjoyed the view, happy to be out of the confines of my house, breathing the fresh air and away from the memories of illness that has plagued us lately.
