If you’re looking for something healthy to eat, then look no more. Everything below is cooked in the oven (minus the salad) so it’s not FRIED. Here is my recipe and directions for making Steelhead Trout, sweet potato fries accompanied with a salad and brown rice. Remember, I do not include amounts as I do [...]

Ashereste Recipe: Persian Vegetable and Bean Hearty Soup. So great for cold weather.
By Jane on February 17, 2010
Ashereste is a Persian hearty soup that could easily be a meal on its own. This is an EXCELLENT soup for the cold, cold winter we’re having. Because this soup takes a while to make, I usually make a bunch and either have people over, give it away, or freeze it to eat another day.

Lucy and I join Fanny Mae for Lunch. Thai time!
By Jane on January 28, 2010
Lucy and I meet up with my Mom for lunch during her lunch break from work. My mom is almost 65 but she loves working and I’m not sure she will retire any time soon. Being the super smart mom that she is, Fanny Mae is a Senior Project Engineer at an Environmental Engineering company. [...]

Shortly after the one top tooth fell out, Louise yanked out the loose one that was next to it too! Girlfriend is INSANE! Every time I see that big gap in the front it reminds me of a METH HEAD or CRACK HEAD. Just sayin’! I think it’s thuper-cute. LOL! Cutest meth head I’ve ever [...]

Benz has been crawling for the last month or so and wants to go places. The other day, he wanted to go mess with the blinds, one of his favorite past times, and got stuck between the bed and the wall. I had put a pillow in between there so he wouldn’t hurt himself but [...]

Just an average day in the life of Jane and Dick.
By Jane on October 7, 2009
Our days are not like most people’s. We don’t have 9-5 jobs. We don’t send our kids to school. So, here’s a glimpse into a day in the life of Jane and Dick. Every day is different, which makes for a less boring, less monotonous life. We started our day at 11:15am this particular morning [...]
Gotham City: Sleeping under the stars, swimming, yoga, prepping properties, and Starbucks. Phew!
By Jane on August 9, 2010
After MIA leaves us to head to LA, it’s back to the grind for me. No more vacation. Luckily because we work for ourselves, we have the flexibilty to adjust our schedules to take time off. We still work during those times, just less. However, after the party, then there is plenty of work to [...]

What is this “Mom” businesses? I’m MOMMY!!!
By Jane on March 5, 2010
Eight seems to be the year that your kids start transitioning into a more grown up phase in their life. Thelma seems more mature and she even tells me all the time: “I really love being eight.” I can’t believe she’s eight already. Just a couple of weeks ago, my 8-year old started calling me [...]

Mommy, it’s summer, we want MOHAWKS.
By Jane on June 24, 2010
Thelma and Louise came up to me the other day requesting that I give them SUMMER HAWKS. “Mommy, we want mohawks.” “What, now? Like, right now?” I love that my kids are FIERCE but I guess I get nervous because I am unsure of my ability to give them a proper cut that wouldn’t result [...]

French Country Chic: Cheese, Crackers, Hummus, Red Wine and Fruit.
By Jane on February 8, 2011
The girls and I go over to my chica June Cleaver’s house the other day to hang out and check out the yummy spread she has ready. How lovely is that?!?!? If you’re having guests over, you can’t go wrong with having some red wine, Boursin cheese and crackers, hummus and bagel chips, grapes, strawberries, [...]

Thelma was inspired to do a painting the other day. She found this extra piece of plywood I had in our shed and painted it white. Working on her masterpiece. Truly an artist at work. It’s almost like she’s doing a dance. Go on girl! Get that creativity out! -Jane, Mother of Artistic Thelma.

Here comes the NEW GEEK SQUAD!
By Jane on April 25, 2010
We’re at BEST BUY and they, too, have gotten in on the CUSTOM BUGGY bandwagon. My kids love these cars and will snag one at every opportunity…even if we just need a couple of things that I can just as easily carry. However, Mommy gets suckered into pushing this heavy thing. I’m just wondering when they [...]

Warning Indian Chilli Peppers are HOT! Dick discovers the hard way.
By Jane on July 4, 2010
Dick loves to eat hot chilli peppers and tells me I’m not Vietnamese because I don’t and Vietnamese people eat quite spicy foods. He and my dad enjoy the small Thai peppers that when just taking a small pinch will make your lips burn like hell, a lingering hell. They tell me that you get [...]

Saw this the other day. I always wonder why people get personalized tags. Must be an ego thing. Anyway, I can relate to this one. -Jane, Lover of Starbucks

Back into the groove. Homeschooling at Starbucks again.
By Jane on September 29, 2011
Because the weather was so nice, and because I can’t seem to stay away, the whole family ventured to Starbucks to homeschool. It’s days like this that make homeschooling more fun and I don’t have to be muttering under my breath between gritted teeth, “I hate teaching, I hate teaching!” Usually, I’m saying that when [...]

EVERYDAY OSHO: Illuminiation. Chicken Soup for this Jane’s Soul.
By Jane on January 26, 2011
Throughout my life I’ve been turmoiled internally and it’s recently (in the past few years) that I’ve come to appreciate all the stresses in my life. Instead of looking at them as horrible things that have happened to me, I can now look at them as learning experiences and appreciate the challenges that come into [...]

It’s 15 years that we’ve been together and I feel very lucky to say that I am still in love with my dear husband, Dick. When I first saw Dick 15 years ago, he definitely caught my eye because he was quite HAWT and HANDSOME. But, looks alone are not enough for me. There are [...]

Homeschooling at Starbucks. That’s right, Starbucks!
By Jane on September 17, 2009
Sometimes the kids need a change of environment when we homeschool so I decide to move the classroom to STARBUCKS. Yes, Starbucks….because when you homeschool, you can do that! We take our butts, our books, and our bikes out to the land of Java so that Mommy can also get her much needed caffeine.

Mommy I’m Hot, But I Want Money!!
By Jane on September 2, 2009
This is our second year having a lemonade sale. Last year the girls had great success and they’ve been begging me to do another one so they could earn some more money to redecorate their room. I’m just glad they want to earn it versus stealing it. Tomorrow is the first day of school for public school here and summer is officially over!
So, I agreed but I was not thrilled to sit in the hot, muggy sun (89F) and get eaten alive by pesky, blood thirsty mosquitos.
I contributed $9.43 to get their business going (which they gave me $6 initially), prepared the lemonade for them, and agreed to give of my time pro-bono. Thelma and Louise recruited a helper, their cousin, to assist as well.
They’re not little pumpkins, they’re Persimmons! Fruit of the Gods.
By Jane on November 4, 2009
It looks like a tomato or a mini-pumpkin but actually this sweet, crunchy fruit is well loved by Asians and Persians, especially my family. It’s fall and my parents’ Persimmon tree is full of Persimmons. One year, they had close to 500 of these orange beauties on ONE tree! Then we had a late frost [...]

Thelma, being almost 10 and anti-pink/anti-girly, no longer plays with her Build-a-Bear. Well, that is, until recently, she discovered that the same clothes may fit her unsuspecting little brother. Little Benz sitting innocently and happily. Now look at him. He’s horrified. “Why sissy, why?!?!?” Not a happy camper. He no likey-likey. Then the other day, [...]
