Dance recital time!

As you know from the couple of posts of Dick and I attending dance class with the girls that they are taking dance this year. (Click HERE and HERE for the stories if you missed them.) Louise is taking a ballet/tap combo class and Thelma is taking a hip hop class.

Most parents of children who take dance know that there is a highly anticipated recital at the end of the year to showcase what your child has learned during the year.

Here’s a few pics before the recital at the grandparents house.

The theme of the recital this year was an around the world theme.

Louise’s class is USA.

Thelma’s hip hop class’ is from Jamaica.

We all end up doing the bunny ears at some point or another in our lives, don’t we?

Now for a nice one please.

Much better.

My ever-so-elegant and graceful ballerina.

Grandma is so proud of her girls.

Lucy came to support as well.

JAMAICA

Hip hoppin’ to Bob Marley.

USA.

This may not seem like ballet but I assure you it is.

At this age, pointing the toes is a HUGE EFFORT. Somehow, it tends to always go inward.

THE OTHER DANCERS

Most parents really care about is their child’s performance but the school that we go to really puts on a great show. The costumes are amazing, the music and choreography are top notch and you can really tell it took a TON OF EFFORT to put it all together with some several hundred dancers. Props to the owner of the school!

With my seat in the top left balcony, my zoom lens could only catch so much without flash but here are some of my faves. (As you can imagine, I probably took over 500 pictures.)

This is a professional group of Chinese dancers.

Dick didn’t know that and was whispering over to me during the performance (while blinking a few times):

“Are all these girls Asian or did they paint their faces to look that way?”

Blinking, I guess because he thought his eyes were deceiving him. And by “paint their faces” he means, put on make-up.

I think one of the favorite parts of these dance recitals is the little kids and their many expected yet hilarious mistakes that make it so amusingly enjoyable.

You always have to feel for the poor mom of the crying one that refuses to move.

Some just go by their own beat. Very graceful indeed.

Then there’s the one primary ballerina that is the Anna Pavlova of the show.

The whole family was there to support…even da mans.

Lovely girls. Just lovely. And quite entertaining!

Those dance costumes are so adorable. I wonder where they got them from! It looks like you had a lovely evening.
