Even though we planned on having Thelma’s birthday in LA, a last minute party was thrown together the night before we decided to have Thelma’s birthday. Hours before the party and I’m running around getting last minute items for the party. We had invited guests to come at 1:00 but we were NOT anywhere close to being ready then. Not a problem though because all my guests are Persian and they are notoriously late. Luckily, I was right and guests didn’t start showing up until 2:00-2:30.
The birthday girl, wearing a dress from Fanny Mae and the boots that she got early because Mommy forgot to put it away.

The hosts.
Sisters, not wanting to hug.
This is the first time EVER that Thelma has had a party with only Persian friends and family.
Thelma was extremely excited to be able to celebrate her birthday with her cousins.
Daddy and Thelma.
Mommy and Daddy.
Ricky and Lucy.
J Lo and Momma F.
When there’s a Persian Party, there is definitely Persian music and dancing.
I manage ok but no where near as fluid as they are.
This is Dick’s cousin’s wife and kids. I guess that makes the kids second cousins? Or first cousins twice removed…something crazy like that. I don’t know the proper cousin tiering and labeling.
WHY IS THE BIRTHDAY GIRL ALL WET???
At one point I leave to get some things we need for the party and come back to find out that my dear birthay girl is drenched from head to toe. How in the heck does this happen???
Thelma starts to excitedly explain – “I don’t know?!?!”…
“I was just walking too close to the pool and wasn’t paying attention just fell into the water!”
She shows me.

The girls had planned on swimming but alas, there was no need for Thelma’s suit. Louise had been asking to go swimming as soon as the party started so she already changed into the bathing suit she brought.
Since Thelma is already wet and the pool is heated, so I tell her to forget the bathing suit and go enjoy herself. I think she was excited that she could swim in her dress.

Of course then all the other kids decide they want to get into the water too so the boys ended up swimming in their underwear.

THE CAKE
Thelma requested something with ice skating for the design.

Lucy picked out a most fabulous, deliciously moist chocolate cake.

The cake is so moist it’s falling apart when I cut it.
The kids are all in high anticipation of the cake. The usual requests ensue…
I want the “HAPPY”. I want the skate. I want a corner piece. I want a big piece.
Funny how when you’re a kid these things are so important. I know, I was like that too.
PINATA TIME
Thelma always wanted a Pinata for her birthday but since it falls in December, she’s never had an outdoor party. LA has been rainy lately but the Gods cleared all that away just in time for Thelma’s birthday.
Being that I am oblivious to these things, I had packed the pinata full of candy so it was too hard for the kids to break. We decided not to make it any harder with a blindfold, so we opted not to use it.
Young kids with a swinging stick make for a dangerous situation. Men, protect your jewels.
After several rounds of attempts to break the pinata and some assistance from Mark, the pinata finally breaks and the candy goes spewing. The kids flock to it like bees on honey, frantically trying to hoard as much candy as they can.
The kids had a great time playing and running around everywhere. Even though Thelma didn’t know some of her guests, kids make friends so easily that it was like they had known eachother forever.
I asked Thelma what her favorite part of the birthday was. I figured it would be presents but instead, she told me it was the part when she fell into the pool. I’m so glad my baby had a good time.
