Thelma’s has been taking ice skating lessons for about two months now. Her coach approached her about doing a competition and Thelma was more than eager to sign up. Since it is a small, local artistic competition, and even though she just started taking lessons, Dick and I thought it would be fun and good experience for her to know what it is like to compete, perform and prepare for competition.
We selected one of Thelma’s favorite songs, Lady Gaga’s Poker Face. This is also one of my favorite songs, surprise surprise. At first, the coach was hesistant thinking it wouldn’t be appropriate for a 7-year old but after she edited the music for a one-minute program, she loved the idea. Thank God she came around because I had a hard time explaining why the coach wouldn’t let her use the song. (I let my kids listen to almost everything.) I guess most kids were skating to Tinkerbell, Snow White, Pocahontas, etc. and here we were doing a routine to Lady Gaga. Oh well. Someone had to spice it up.
Thelma invited one of her BEST FRIENDS and it so happens that her mom, June Cleaver, is also one of my good friends. In addition to June Cleaver and her girls, Fanny Mae, Dick, Louise and I were all there to support our dear Thelma.
HER #1 FANS:
JUNE CLEAVER, LOUISE & KIDS

I had a great mask that Lucy Lu gave me for my birthday goth party and thought it would be cool since Lady Gaga is known for her masks.
Thelma has been practicing her routine for a few weeks but had limited practice with the music. So, I was super happy when she did such a great job and hitting all her marks on time.

It was lots of fun watching the other skaters as well. They were SO cute!!

The most important thing for all of us was for Thelma to enjoy the experience and she did! She’s already ready for the next competition!

Because this was more of a small, local art competition, medals were not given for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, but rather for merit.

Thelma got “MOST CREATIVE” for her medal and is so proud to have her first medal ever.
Great job baby! We’re so proud of you!!
